Lumsden Bridge Restoration Complete

The Lumsden Bridge is a crucial tourism link for both Snowmobiles and ATVs visiting our region.  The original bridge was damaged in a freshet around 2012.  There was enough structural damage that engineers determined it was no longer safe and sadly, it was dismantled.

This section of trail is some of the most pristine backcountry we have and enjoys significant snowfall which is protected by boreal forest cover from the sun. This provides a longer spring trail season than so many other locations.  It is also a crucial link for forest fire protection and emergency services.  The new bridge is significantly higher to protect against damage due to spring or winter thaws as our climate changes.

We are thrilled to announce the completion and will be announcing the Grand Opening Event during February Frolic 2024.

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Grand Opening of the long-awaited bridge rebuild during February Frolic in Fundy Albert.

Lumsden, NB February 9th, 2024 – Join us in Lumsden, NB, on February 17th at 1 pm sharp for the grand opening of the brand new Lumsden Bridge over Crooked Creek.

The Lumsden Bridge has been a crucial connecting point for thousands of snowmobilers and outdoor enthusiasts, allowing them access to some of the most pristine backcountry we have. Due to the changing climate, spring and winter thaws, the bridge and its surrounding areas have declined for years, deeming it unsafe for crossing around 2012.

Thanks to a contribution of $217, 770 from the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the South Eastern New Brunswick Snowmobilers Association, and a financial contribution of $173,661 from the Province of New Brunswick, the new bridge is complete. Built higher and stronger, it will last for many generations to come!

“The Lumsden Bridge is a central part of Albert Country’s vibrant history and an invitation to residents and visitors alike to get out and explore,” said the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA. “Your federal government is committed to supporting important projects just like this one to make sure that rural communities can thrive and prosper.”

“Being able to say the Crooked Creek bridge project has been completed, is something that many people should be very proud of”, states Albert MLA Mike Holland.

“The efforts of several have come together to ensure that this important connection to our trail system has come to pass. I am very pleased that I could play a role in getting the job done and now many new visitors will get to experience the natural beauty of Albert County!”

Calling all snowmobilers, please join us for the Official Grand Reopen at Lumsden Bridge over the historic Crooked Creek at 1 pm to celebrate, support, and explore the boreal forest during Fundy Frolic.
